Pioneering Indian American biochemist Har Gobind Khorana, who won the 1968 Nobel Prize for medicine, has died of natural causes in Concord, Massachusetts. Khorana, 89, who was Massachusetts Institute of Technology 's Alfred P Sloan Professor of Biology and Chemistry emeritus, died earlier this week. He won the Nobel Prize in 1968, sharing it with two others, for unravelling the nucleotide sequence of RNA and deciphering the genetic code.

In an apparent case of murder-suicide, a Malayali woman and her two children were found dead in the family's home in Delta Township, west of Lansing, Michigan.The dead victims were identified as Brigeethamma Shajimon, 40, Alwin Shajimon Thomas, 10, and Alfred Shajimon Thomas, 5, by the Eaton County Sheriff's Office.Brigeethamma's husband Shajimon Thomas called the police on Monday evening. He told the police that he had found the bodies in his home at Plum Tree Apartments.

A team at Edith Cowan University is looking for a way out for multimedia data to be stored in barcodes and retrieved with a mobile phone camera snapshot, allowing software such as ringtones to be 'downloaded' from mediums like magazines. They have named it the mobile multi-colour composite 2D-barcode, the media reported.
